For three years, director Staffan Julén travelled around Belarus and Russia together with Svetlana Alexievich, winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature. While exploring the writer’s meticulous creative process, based on hundreds of meetings with men and women from the ex Soviet Union, the film draws a layered portrait of both Alexievich and the ‘Homo Sovieticus’ that is the object of her literary quest – the everyday people and their epic stories of politics, freedom, social connections and love.
